Temperature of Love
Andras & Oscar
Scene stalwarts Andras & Oscar return with a loosie, 'Temperature of Love', a spur-of-the-moment creation inspired by finding a knock-off 909 at a pawn shop. The track aims somewhere in between Chicago-flecked deep house and later 90s Euro house, with its warm, spacious groove brightened by organ chord stabs and Oscar's lovedrunk crooning. For such a back-to-basics approach, though, the song sounds impeccably fresh. A subtle dembow pulse emerges about a minute in as the rhythm picks up little syncopations, bringing just enough contemporary flavour without losing the essence of the beat. And I really like how you can hear the knock-off quality of the drum machine. The snare and tom hits lack the crispness of a real 909, but that keeps 'Temperature of Love' from falling into classic house revivalism. The rawness is a blessing, just as it was for the pioneers of dance music in the 80s. No plugins in sight.
